Pronunciation and orthography

In normal speech, words and sounds are not pronounced separately. The pronunciation is continuous, elided. It causes several minor changes in pronunciation.

  • Within words: Odkiaľ ste? /otkiaľ sťe/
  • Between words: Som tu s mojou rodinou. /som tu z mojou roďinou/

Voiced sounds may become unvoiced and vice versa. The speaker often does not even notice these changes. They occur more or less automatically in fluid speech.
