Parts of speech and inflexion

In Slovak, there are three grammatical genders of nouns – masculine, feminine and neuter. We distinguish between the genders not only for people, but also for things, animals, plants, etc. If you want to use a noun correctly, you must know its gender.

Animals: pes mačka šteňa
Things: dom kniha auto
Plants: strom ruža ginko

chlapec, strom, dom, lístok, autobus, vlak, hotel, pes, hokejista, stôl
Feminine
stanica, ulica, kniha, ruža, ruka, noha, hlava, skriňa, izba, mačka, ceruzka, reštaurácia, tvár, pieseň
Neuter
mesto, dievča, auto, parkovisko, srdce, okno, centrum, pero, lietadlo, letisko
